I am Russian, and I will tell you its a 100% direct translation. But in speaking we would remove second word. But as of translating ‘I Am” its a direct translation of both words.

Hello Krystal! Daniela is right. This is not a mistake. “Есть” is a direct translation of the verb “to be”. But in Russian we don’t use it when we build sentences in the present tense and would rather just say “Я” instead of “Я есть”.
